WHAT IS NEUROPSYCHOLOGY?
Clinical neuropsychology is a specialty in professional psychology that applies the principles of assessment and intervention based on the scientific study of human behavior as it relates to normal and abnormal functioning of the central nervous system. This specialty is dedicated to enhancing the understanding of brain behavior relationships and the application of such knowledge to human problems.
Clinical neuropsychologists assist patients with extremely varied concerns including such conditions as dementia, vascular disorders, Parkinson’s disease, traumatic brain injury, seizure disorders, learning disabilities, neuropsychiatric disorders, infectious disease affecting the central nervous systems, neurodevelopmental disorders, metabolic disease and the neurological effects of medical disorders or treatment. A clinical neuropsychologist has specialized knowledge and training beyond that of other licensed, clinical psychologists.
