Reasons to Schedule a Neuropsychological Testing
Your doctor may recommend a neuropsychological evaluation, or you (or a loved one) may decide to schedule neuropsychological testing. Many different situations might prompt a physician or self-referral. Broadly, these include the following situations:

- Assessment or Monitoring of a Medical Condition.
Troublesome New or Worsening Symptoms
One reason you might schedule a neuropsychological evaluation is when you, your family members, or caregivers notice new or worsening symptoms.
These symptoms might include any of the following:
- Memory loss
- Attention or concentration difficulties
- Poor organizing and planning
- Difficulty multitasking or following a series of steps
- Language difficulty (e.g., difficulty finding a commonly used word, naming an everyday item, slurred speech, or speaking gibberish)

Assessment or Monitoring of a New or Existing Medical Condition

These new or existing medical conditions might include:
- Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- Stroke (called cerebral vascular events or CVAs)
- Parkinson’s disease
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Traumatic brain injuries, such as a fall, car accident, or work injury
- Suspected or known learning disabilities (e.g., problems with processing language, difficulties with reading, writing, or calculating math problems)
